M. Wu Chanlong (吴禅龙,Nephy Perez) has devoted over 40 years to the practice, research, and transmission of martial arts. An exceptionally versatile practitioner, he has dedicated himself to traditional and combat-effective Chinese martial arts, pursuing knowledge across multiple styles with rigor, discipline, and a deep respect for lineage.
A descendant of rebels and Gauchos from the Riograndense and Rioplatense regions of the historic Banda Oriental (modern-day Uruguay), M. Wu’s family fled South America during Operation Condor, eventually settling in Australia. There, he grew up within a Chinese-Vietnamese migrant community marked by social instability and prevalent violence. To cultivate resilience and ensure his safety, his parents enrolled him in martial arts training at a young age. That challenging environment provided a natural foundation for real combat skills and instilled in him a lifelong dedication to martial arts.
From early exposure to multiple systems, M. Wu focused on traditional combat-orientated martial arts, travelling extensively across China, Asia, and the world to learn directly from masters, living in China and then Singapore for over 20 years, immersing himself fully in both martial practice and culture, training under masters such as Li Junde, Wu Jianhua, Li Baosheng, Wu Lianzhi, Hu Chengwu, Xia Minghua, Ge Chunyan, Sun Changli, Yuan Xiugang, Chen Peijie, Ren Zhiyi, Chen Yuanhu, Mao Yimin, Xu Ruicai, Wang Zhihai, Li Biqing, Liu Zhenhai, Chi Jianxiu, Qiao Xiuchuan, Li Yufeng, Yu Fengyi, Zhang Guangqi, Ma Shulin, Tong Peiyun, Zhang Jinfa, Ma Zhendong, Yang Zihua, Liang Jincheng, Tan Qiurong, Luo Zhentian, Liu Junfeng, Wang En’sheng, Jia Xiaolong, Liang Yiquan, Wu Xinming, Zhao Guangdi, Wu Dawei, Chen Jingqi, Zhang Limin, Li Hongwen, and many others. His training emphasised combat-focused, systematic skill acquisition, integrating conditioning, weapons, and practical applications.
Beyond martial arts, M. Wu has pursued a professional career in logistics and supply chain management, Chinese medicine, and healthcare and served as a university lecturer at the National University of Singapore. He founded the Taiping Institute to preserve, develop, and disseminate authentic martial knowledge for future generations. Over nearly 25 years, he has combined personal research with teaching, mentoring dedicated students voluntarily, reflecting his lifelong commitment to the art, its ethical transmission, and its practical combat heritage.
